Ziyanda Majozi is an artists who’s predominant medium is mosaic. Using various coloured and textured natural stones Majozi creates portraits that are intricately detailed. The artist’s craftmanship and understanding of light and space creates transient and impressionistic portraits with a material deemed dense in numbers. Beyond exploring portraiture in their work, as a theme, Ziyanda also explores abstract compositions using stones.

Born in Namakwe in the Eastern Cape, Majozi is currently living and working in Cape Town. Mostly a self-taught artists Ziyanda obtained a Certificate in Graphic Design from the Cape Penisula University of Technology (2006) and a Diploma in Mosaic Art from the Spier Arts Academy (2013). Participation in residencies include the David Koloane Mentorship Programme (2013) and the Thami Mnyele Residency Award (2017). Amongst multiple group exhibitions Majozi has participated in Defining the Narrative at Gallery MOMO, Johannesburg (2015), Dipaka at Jaffer Modern, Cape Town (2021) and Serendipitous at DAOR Contemporary, Cape Town (2023). Majozi’s works are also held in local and international art collections like the JPMorgan Chase Art Collection. And here in Brussels at the Mae Flynn Collection.

“Each person has their own story.

Sometimes we get lost, with whatever is happening in the world, and we forget our own stories and forget who we are, we forget all these things. It’s the process of remembering who I am, where I’m going and the people around me.”
